Our Firm

We are an ambitious partner for excellent and innovative companies in Africa

A long-term approach to investing which includes delivery of excellent operational and other “value add” work, and a successful track record of partnering with strong management teams across the continent.

Our History

Two pioneers of investment in Africa, Miles Morland and Runa Alam, founded Development Partners International (DPI) in 2007

Our People

Our team reflects the diversity of the continent we invest in and shares its growth ambitions

We are among Africa’s leading investment institutions. We believe that partnership with our portfolio company management teams, along with our investors, is key to our success. Our focus is to continue delivering skillsets to our companies to help them grow through our disciplined, process-led approach.

We attract exciting companies as investment opportunities and work hand-in-hand with them to create value and positive impact. Successful companies are sustainable for the future. Thus, we invest with a long-term view.

DPI is headquartered in London and is authorised with the UK FCA and files as an exempt reporting adviser with the US SEC.

* Both DPI’s ADP I and II Funds have been classified as top quartile by Cambridge Associates.

“We always dreamed that DPI would be a truly diverse firm in the belief that people of different backgrounds would give us a unique strength. Now, fifteen years later, DPI has over twenty different nationalities and a balance of gender, ethnicity, background, and belief that makes us the most pan-African of all private equity firms, a firm that mirrors Africa itself in its diversity. I’m very proud of that.”

Miles Morland
Co-Founding Partner and Chairman

Our purpose and values

We invest in people and companies to deliver competitive commercial returns for investors, while ensuring our work leaves a lasting and positive social, economic and environmental impact on the communities in which we operate. We do this by remaining rooted in our core values:

Strong partnerships are the cornerstone of DPI’s philosophy. As long-term investors, we establish deep-rooted relationships with companies, CEOs and management teams by working on the ground with them to achieve their goals.

With excellence at our core, we strive to deliver products and services to our portfolio company management teams and investors that are of the highest standard and that enhance growth, profitability, returns and positive impact.

Our investment decisions and firm culture reflect our commitment to integrity. We have evolved through three fund cycles to improve our ESG capabilities, develop an impact-intentional strategy and train the team in Impact and ESG annually.  We expect every member of the firm to hold themselves to the highest standards of honesty and integrity. We continually strive to learn our lessons openly and honestly, and re-apply them in everything we do.

We are committed to acting responsibly, both within our own business practices and as an investor, seeking to leave a lasting positive impact on the people, businesses and communities where we work. ADP III is the first African fund to successfully obtain an “A” rating by the UN Principles for Responsible Investment, in each year since 2018.

We foster an environment of diversity, equity and inclusion, seeking a range of viewpoints to help us better understand and succeed in the world in which we operate. We believe that there is strength in our diversity and our team reflects the continent that we serve.  We are and will always remain One Firm collaborating across geographies and functions to deliver the best of DPI. Our third fund, ADP III, was chosen as the first Flagship Fund by the G7 DFIs in their gender balance initiative (the 2X Challenge).

Our focus is on collaborating with our investors and portfolio company management teams, as well as amongst ourselves, as DPI employees. All members of the DPI team are based at a central hub in London where best practices are shared and teamwork is encouraged.
